Based on projections of economic growth in Alberta for the next fibe years, registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012) are projected to be the fastest growth occupation province wide. Not surprising, the majority of these positions will be in the Health sector.
When considerations of both demand and the available supply of workers three occupations are projected to experience some significant shortages. Nurses (NOC 3012) and Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates (NOC 3412) are expected to experience the most significant shortages.
Provincial forecasts of employment demand and supply are developed at a detailed occupation (4 digit NOC) and industry (3 digit NAICS) level. These forecasts incorporate assumptions regarding future economic growth, trade, key sector prices and other economic variables.
Within each provincial forecast a projection of the regional employment picture is prepared for major metropolitan areas across Canada. The same level of detail is applied to these forecasts as those prepared at the provincial level.
Some industries are expected to experience significant change. This includes the impact of trade agreements, engery prices and technology. The availability of a skilled workforce to meet these challenges is essential to sustainability.
